Pupil Premium at St Michael’s CE Primary School

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to help schools close the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. It is allocated to schools based on the number of pupils who meet specific eligibility criteria.

Who is eligible for Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium funding is provided for children who fall into one or more of the following categories:

    • Children who are currently eligible for free school meals (FSM) or have been eligible in the last six years (known as Ever 6 FSM)

    • Children who are looked after by the local authority (CLA)

    • Children who have been adopted from care or have left care under a special guardianship or residence order

    • Children from families where a parent is serving in the Armed Forces

If your child is eligible, this does not affect their experience in school — they are not singled out or treated differently — but it does mean the school receives additional funding to help ensure they have the same opportunities to succeed as all other pupils.

What can the funding be used for?

Schools have the freedom to decide how best to use Pupil Premium funding, based on the specific needs of their pupils. At St Michael’s, we are committed to using this funding in a meaningful and impactful way.

    We use Pupil Premium to:

    • Support the cost of educational visits and residential trips, ensuring all children can take part in valuable learning experiences beyond the classroom,

    • Fund targeted interventions and additional support for learning, such as small group work or tutoring, to help close gaps and raise attainment,

    • Offer wellbeing and pastoral support, helping children to feel safe, happy, and ready to learn

Our aim is to ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to the same rich, high-quality opportunities and support to help them thrive.

If you think your child may be eligible for Pupil Premium funding, or if you would like more information, please contact the school office in confidence. Your child may be entitled to additional support, and applying could make a significant difference to their school experience.
